X Force vs the Defenders 5

I oversold the Hellcat Arc kind of but it was still really interesting. Going into Season 3, I was excited that they might make Trish into an actual superhero despite the wishes of Jessica. Then I don’t think we actually saw her in the first episode because Jessica was avoiding her for killing her bio mom. Fair fair, I am disappointed though that they just gave black pajamas for her hero outfit. They tease the comic costume but Trish rejects it. I mean I know she’s trying to be a sneaky vigilante but she’s just copying Matt Murdock shit at this point. You know, in universe, they were active wearing the same outfit around the same time so that’s kind of funny. It’s ironic too since she suggested a flashy costume for Jessica in the first season.

Then we move onto the antagonist of the season (you know besides Hogarth and Malcolm) Salinger. He’s super minor in comics and I think the show was aware that he isn’t the big bad so they don’t even give us his background or anything. He’s basically a secondary antag smart enough to mess with Trish and Jess until he kills their shared mother. This is when Trish actually enters ‘Hellcat’ mode as that is the name of the episode but they never name her in the show. I thought they might’ve got something like “Cat Claws of Hell’s Kitchen” like they did Murdock but now I don’t even remember the name the newspaper gave her. Gaining superpowers was affecting her personality (mostly confidence) throughout the season but now she totally turned not only killing Salinger but other folks. Jessica did get a decent physical fight before subduing her intelligently and very much satisfyingly.

I think Trish’s character is weakest in season 1 but with the recognition she’s still very good there. Also for someone of English descent, the actress Racheal Taylor is stunning.

There were also other characters who had evil arcs in the season making Jessica the most cheery person onscreen. Even her love interest of the season was super snarky and more sarcastic than her. I can’t agree with everything Malcolm did logically but also it was just nice he had something going for him. He worked for Hogarth against Jessica and even his own girlfriend. Just crazy good character writing for him. Oh and HOGARTH. If you thought she was bitchy before, she is just a diabolical evil mastermind in this season. I’d argue she’s the main antag if she didn’t make up with Jessica.

So anyways, Hellcat gets to date Quicksilver today. Hah, bet that never happen (I can’t find evidence they interacted in comics). Don’t worry about this having 4 pages, this is a med length transition chapter into the first big battle scene. After this I think we’re halfway done…
