Oh shit it’s April. Uh did you like Blackbolt dying so spectacularly? I liked the up and downs of his fight. He first started with an ambush and then went on to bully Psylocke despite her resolve before unfortunately combusting to Quicksilver. That’s a pretty good record when compared to folks like Jessica and Danny.
I will say I am not that familiar with the Blackbolt character as I have not watched that Inhumans show (which doesn’t exist) or read their comics. I think I hate the existence of inhumans in the Marvel universe, as a 21st Century citizen. First of all, its just mutants that live on the moon in a secret society. (quick aside: as someone who didn’t grow up with 20th century racism, mutants are not different to me than mutates like Hulk and Spider-Man. They just also have superpowers but from birth). Secondly, for BB specifically, I don’t his power set. I don’t like that he can’t speak without causing Hiroshima 1945.
On the first point, it’s funny to me (who grew up on Shonen Jump) that people in the universe have to either consume radioactive waste or be born with randomly mutated chromosomes in order to have superpowers. At least Stark makes his own suits but that sentence refers to the mutates and mutants of Marvel. In Japanese manga, most power systems are biological and even in My Hero Academia, most everyone is supposed to be biologically enhanced. But also even with mutants, many of them were productions of like experiments by Celestials, Dr Essex, or whatever. Celestials specifically created Inhuman if I remember correctly but I wonder what the point of that is. At least with mutants, you had superhumans to build a racial narrative around. The fuck are they doing on the Moon? Or whatever secret city they have on Earth? The fuck kind of lackluster world building is that. And that is the Marvel’s Universe greatest sin in terms of world building; the secret societies of Wakanda, Inhumans, and magicians (at least in the MCU, idk about comics). Just locations completely ripped away from the rest of the planet just because they didn’t want to rewrite history or change the fundamentals of world. This makes it easy to adapt the Vietnam War or maybe the War on Terror in the backstory of certain characters but their universe also immediately loses any flavor it could have for having a society which has this magic rock that automatically advances their technology. The Inhumans city is also said to be technologically advanced but I don’t know why maybe their superpower improves things by that much. Anyways, I just dislike it setting-wise so Blackbolt in this city is just another Yankee fan.
Power wise, I hate this nigga oml. Him and Cyclops from the X Men for the same reason. They try to do the most basic human process of talking or SIGHT and kill everyone they know. I know Stan Lee loves to torture his characters but what the fuck kind of curse is that? Imagine Parker trying to relate to them with his problem of double lives and they state their problem, I’m crying. At least they have machines to nerf themselves but it really sucks. If Scott Summers was in this story, his visors would actually give him the ability to burn you from across the room as a regular human. Here, BB just gets to be a sonic…. an audiomancer. Hmm, I can’t think of a cool name for it. I still limit him physically so he isn’t broken and I also made him stoic so he isn’t talking uncharacteristically.
Also, you can see my aversion to mutants in how Psylocke works. She, in my book is a psychic. That’s separate from a biological evolution as it is mental. I don’t mind still calling her a mutant since she is Weapon VI but the knives are all psychic. Of course, Daredevil could sense the presence of such energy as if it were always visible. She’s never had to fight that, even as Braddock. If given a full backstory, she probably did some form of mental training to be able to manifest knives. In Japanese media, folks get to create their superpowers with a usually spiritual origin. Enel (from One Piece) can use electricity to read your intentions from ten miles away, Electro can just get outsmarted by Spider-Man like the kid isn’t in his late teens. Not a totally fair comparison but I’m just describing the difference. The only Marvel character that is even close to Gon Freeces is someone like Iron Fist but technically the dragon gives him the chi. You do have to wonder, with eastern stuff gaining more traction with Millennials and Zoomers, once we join Marvel/DC if the power system will be updated with more stuff than just genetics. Because that is the power system of Marvel, if you analyze it’s mechanism (Jojo reference). Even Stark just has genes making him smart enough to build that suit IN A CAVE. WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS. Magic still works and physical training was cool and all but as soon as Banner was born with the correct gene sequence to absorb gamma radiation, its wraps for the rest of everyone else. Or David Haller. Or the fact that human dna and celestial dna was the perfect combo for Quill to hold an infinity stone and then later start the universal absorption with Ego. This paragraph actually just reminds me of that scene from Boondocks but its just “wait a minute, my ancestor is Wolverine, I can take you”.
The next segment of the story will have kind of have a weird split when you’ve read both parts. I didn’t realize it was so long and of course I didn’t not originally plant to post it episodically like this because it was supposed to be shorter. At least this chapter will take us to the climax. Also, I’m gonna fact check the legal system or whatever. This is my story- my United States of America. This is a totally accurate recreation of what should happen in an American court here.
