It was not like the commanders were abused. They would be under arrest in an emptied out hotel and every move of theirs was spectated by a Polish troop. They were not allowed to see each other so eating times were scheduled and magic was unavailable to them via an anti magic potion. Sigismund prayed that Hedwig would be sent over for whatever sane reason.
And a year later, that seemed to hold true. One day, a carriage was spotted entering Krakow which Sigismund saw from the window. He craned his neck to see Cardinal Demetrius leave the carriage along with King Hedwig. There were also two boys with them. She was wearing the Polish crown and fancy dress already. “YEEEEESSSSSS!”
Hedwig heard his familiar voice and then spotted him and waved, “big cousin!”
The Cardinal held her down, “relax, we haven’t gotten a message from them in months. You aren’t just going to see…Sigismund…what are you doing up there?”
“They’re holding us hostage so she can be king!”
“Ah and due to internal issues, you’ve suffered longer than you should’ve.”
“Hey,” said the guard pulling Sigismund away from the window. Then he checked outside and spotted the Cardinal. “Is that the new king?”
“Yes sir.”
“LETS GOOOO!”
And so the commanders were released although they were not invited to the next event. The Sejm gathered in their meeting room with Cardinal Demetrius presenting King Hedwig Anjou. The two boys with her seemed very protective of her but also did not speak to her due to obvious nerves. Still, the people were very happy and clapped for her. Archbishop Bodzanta, who previously supported Siemowit, now had to officiate her kingship with his blessings. Naderspan was also present and congratulated her. Then she signed a treaty with Siemowit to end his war, seizing some land from him in trade of 10,000 ducats. Then the Sejm had a big feast and after that, Hedwig would be given a tour of the castle by Bodzanta.
And now, the Cardinal would detail the gang (the Szesci family, the Luxembourgs, Stibor, Baron Csak, the Losonci brothers, Kurjakovic, Alsani, Tamasi, Pippo Spano, Archer James, Szecsenyi brothers, Besenyo, Perenyi and the uninvited Wilhelm Habsburg) on, “what convinced Queen Dowager Elizabeta so strongly that she should let go of her daughter? It not be me nor desire coming from Hedwig herself. It would be the Durazzo affair….”
“AFFAIR!?”
“Show restraint, I’m still telling the story.”
To be continued…
